If you’re like me, you’ve got
a bin in your garage or basement with old
seat packs, hydration bags, and day packs,
that are sometime past their useful life.
Cordura, Gortex, Hypalon, and other wonder
fabrics complete their make up. Now that
they’re worn out, what do we do with them?
They don’t recycle, they
can’t biodegrade. Bury them? Burn them?
Collect them I suppose.
This dilemma was the impetus
for Ethik: to build a solid, functional seat
bag with sustainability built in.
Pedro’s Ethik bags address
the three keys of sustainability:
Ethik Sustainability
Environmental:
-
A thorough Life Cycle Analysis is the
basis for the materials and construction
used in the Ethik design. HDPE is
wonderfully durable, in addition to being
a useful industrial nutrient.
- It is
recyclable, returning to life time and
again at the same material value.
- It is
printed with water-based ink.
Social:
- Ethik
is sewn in co-op shops throughout Quebec
province, Canada, reinstating jobs in
communities previously devastated by the
textile industry’s collapse as jobs
marched off to cheaper, unregulated
markets.
-
The choice of the workshops
to manufacture the Ethik bags is not done
simply according to price but other
criteria such as distance from the
warehouse (greenhouse gases), quality,
operation performance, design abilities,
equipment to be used, etc…
Economic:
-
Production of Ethik bags fosters growth in
a region with a weakened economy. Every
job preserved or created has a far
reaching impact.
Pedro’s it is truly exciting
to offer a new accessories designed for
sustainability. When you look at the wall of
seat bags in the store, it is the only one
with a cradle to cradle approach. A never
ending life. Truly the only one to buy if
you care about the planet. To learn more,
