San Diego,
CA (January 18, 2008) – Pedro’s, an
industry leader in sustainable cycling
products,
kicks off the third annual Pedro’s Global
Bicycle Care Revival, Mother Earth &
Dealer Love Tour in San
Diego, California on Monday, January 21 to
spread the word about Pedro’s. The company
ethos is
focused on delivering sustainable, high
quality bicycle care products and to do it
by sustainable means.
The 2008 Love Tour will be different
however. Instead of purchasing carbon
offset credits, Pedro’s will
be pulling CO2 from the sky at every stop.
The Pedro’s
tech reps will be leaving a Compact
Fluorescent Lamp with every dealer they
visit in 2008.
That will equal more than 1500 CFLs and
1200 tons of carbon emission actually
saved, far greater than
the 53 tons expected to be generated by
the three bio-diesel fed Sprinter vans
during the tour,
according to the nativeenergy.com travel
calculator.
“Last year we
bought wind credits to mitigate our CO2
emissions from the three vans. Credits are
OK,
but they’re too ethereal and people don’t
believe they really make a difference.
This year we wanted to
do something more practical, more real
world. We also wanted to involve others
and help demonstrate
one of the easiest ways to lighten the
green house gas burden on the planet.”
Christopher Zigmont,
Pedro’s GM beamed.
CFL facts:
Compact fluorescent bulbs require 70% less
energy and last ten times longer than the
incandescent
bulbs they replace. If every one of 110
million American households bought just
one compact fluorescent bulb,
and replaced an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the
energy saved would be enough to power a
city of 1.5 million people.
One bulb swapped out, saves enough
electricity to power all the homes in
Delaware and Rhode Island. In terms
of oil not burned, or greenhouse gases not
exhausted into the atmosphere, one bulb is
equivalent to taking 1.3
million cars off the road.
